Microsoft recalls Small Business Server 2003 R2
(InfoWorld) - Microsoft has recalled an updated version of Small Business Server because of a glitch discovered during a regular software production audit, the company said Friday. The update, called Small Business Server 2003 R2, contained non-final versions of some core components. However, it had only been released recently to original equipment manufacturers, system builders and distributors, and was not generally available to customers, according to the company. Microsoft is recalling and reissuing the production so far of R2. That will lead to a minor delay in general availability, the Redmond, Washington, company said. Earlier this month at its launch at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference, Microsoft said the product would be available in August. Small Business Server 2003 R2 will incorporate the Windows Server 2003 operating system, the SharePoint Web portal, Exchange Server groupware and Office Outlook e-mail software. New portal for the over-50 crowd goes live
(InfoWorld) - Eons.com, an Internet portal for people over 50 years old, will debut officially on Monday as the company behind it bets that people in this age group are underserved on the Internet. "The site is about the celebration of turning 50 and the reachable goal of being 100," said Jeff Taylor, founder and chief executive officer of Eons Inc., who also founded jobs site Monster.com in 1994. "Our focus is to inspire a generation of baby-boomers and senior citizens to live their biggest life possible." Eons.com has been online in partial form, but on Monday all of its features will go live. The site's information and services will focus on four key areas: health, finances, entertainment, and family. It will have a very targeted social-networking component to introduce visitors to others with similar interests, hobbies, and life experiences, Taylor said. Plans are to make the site international in scope, but initially the company will focus it on the U.S., where there are about 86 million people over 50, Taylor said. About 44 million of those people are online, so there is a big opportunity to cater to them and to attract others who are staying away from the Internet, he said.
