Need Advice on JustZip
I used JustZip to backup my 'c' drive to me external 'e' drive. I already had important files on my 'e' drive which has been there for a number of years. I had backed them up from my 'c' drive using windows briefcase. After I ran the JustZip all the programs from my 'c' drive have been installed on the 'e' drive - and all my previous stored files have disappeared. Can someone tell me if I can retrieve these files or are they gone forever?http://free-backup.info

Vodafone plans to resell DSL
(InfoWorld) - In a departure from its traditional mobile-only strategy, Vodafone Group on Tuesday announced plans to introduce new services that hinge on DSL, which the operator will have to resell in order to deliver to customers. The new strategy points to dramatic changes in the communications market that pit Vodafone against the likes of fixed line operators, broadband players Google's voice service, and companies that resell mobile services. "We find that the business model is changing and we have to stay one step ahead so we don't get disintermediated from the customer," said Arun Sarin, chief executive of Vodafone, speaking during a conference call to discuss the new services and the operator's year-end financial report. "The fundamental business model in mobile will continue to change." He introduced a new strategy called Mobile Plus, which will roll out in several stages and which Vodafone expects will generate 10 percent of its revenue in the next three to four years. "The point is to capture minutes from landline and move it to wireless," Sarin said. The initial stage will see Vodafone extending a service currently available in Germany and known as Zuhause, or At Home. Mobile subscribers pay a low rate for a large number of local and national mobile voice minutes that can be used while they are at home. Vodafone will make a similar offering for business people that will be relevant within their offices. The Zuhause offering attracted 630,000 users in one year and currently accounts for about 1 percent of Vodafone Germany's monthly revenue. By the end of this year, Vodafone Germany hopes to have 2 million Zuhause customers. The next phase will be for Vodafone to start selling DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) services to subscribers of the At Home service, offering a bundled price plan. In Germany, Vodafone will resell the DSL access from Arcor, a company it owns, starting in the third quarter. According to a Vodafone study, 37 percent of Zuhause customers said they'd sign up for a Vodafone DSL service if offered it. In other markets, Vodafone will resell from landline operators that it doesn't own. Once the combined wireless and DSL service is available, Vodafone will work on integrating applications and services so that they are available in both the mobile and the PC environments. For example, the mobile Vodafone Live portal will be extended to the PC. Vodafone also hopes to make applications like instant messaging and the relevant buddy list, address books, voicemail and streaming radio the same and available on both the mobile phone and PC. The final component of Mobile Plus will be a push for Vodafone to try to earn revenue from Internet advertising on mobile devices. "There is an emerging advertising business model online, a la Google, a la Yahoo," said Sarin. "We have to find a way to monetize this and create new revenue streams and we intend to do this in the next one to two years." Vodafone did not expand on what its mobile online advertising initiative would look like for customers.SEE ALSO:Update: Vodafone records heavy losses for year Vodafone, Softbank to join on handsets, content

Strange problem with context menu
Whenever I click on a .wpd (WordPerfect) document in Windows to open it, JustZipIt kicks in instead. If I check the context window, JustZipIt has become the first, highlighted item and so just clicking on the document automatically zips it. This hasn't happened on any other type of file that I can think of -- only with wpd documents. Which happen to be among the most commonly used files on my computer. With everything else, "Open" or some other appropriate function is the first item on the context menu. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling JustZipIt, and then I tried removing "wpd" from the settings file in JustZipIt but none of that made any difference. How do I stop it from automatically zipping wpd files? I have WinXP Home by the way.http://free-backup.info

Default folders at the start of Back2zip
Hi, I'd like to have "Folders to backup" and "Location of Zip folder" empty. So I have erased this fields. But I was surprised, when Back2zip after the new start of the program has set up my Documents and Settings folder to be processed and D:\MyBackup as the Zip archive folder. This caused that the new compression was automatically launched, but I did not specified it.http://free-backup.info

Power Toys for Visual Studio, IronRuby advance .Net

Power Toys for Visual Studio, IronRuby advance .Net
(InfoWorld) - .Net is getting boosts with diagnostic tools and a version of the Ruby programming language for Microsoft's application development platform. As part of its Shared Source program, Microsoft has released "Power Toys for Visual Studio" tools, which are intended to address developer pain points and diagnostics, according to a Microsoft blog this week. "We released several new Shared Source tools that include source code to real-world tools and encourage customers to extend the tools as needed, essentially creating mini-communities for help and support for related tasks," said S. "Soma" Somasegar, corporate vice president for the Microsoft Developer Division, in his blog. Three tools are available, including MSBee, which allows developers to build managed applications with MSBuild using Visual Studio 2005 projects targeting the 1.1. release of the .Net Framework. Other tools include Team Foundation Server Admin tool, allowing administrators to add and modify user permissions on the company's Team Foundation Server offering, and Managed Stack Explorer, for monitoring .Net 2.0 managed processes and stacks. "Already in the first week, there have been nearly 1,000 downloads of MSBee and almost 700 downloads" each of the other two offerings, Somasegar said. Shared Source is Microsoft's answer to open source, through which the company selectively shares source code. Separately, a developer in The Netherlands is working on IronRuby, an implementation of the popular Ruby language for the .Net Framework. "It's an interpreter which makes it possible to run Ruby code and re-use libraries written for .Net. It compiles Ruby code to MSIL (Microsoft Intermediate Language), the language to which all .Net languages compile," said developer Wilco Bauwer in an e-mailed response to questions. "IronRuby is currently in its very early stages. The goal is to implement all features that Ruby provides and additionally provide seamless [integration] with the .Net framework. Currently IronRuby still lacks several language features and a large portion of the Base Class Library, but that will change over time," Bauwer said. Interoperability is a key benefit of IronRuby, said Bauwer. "People may love to use Ruby for their day-to-day tasks, but if it lacks integration with .Net, it may often not be an option to use Ruby at all. With IronRuby you can use Ruby instead of, for example, C# without throwing away an entire framework and everything that is ever built on top of it," Bauwer said. .Net, meanwhile, gives Ruby developers benefits such as a Just-In-Time compiler, which could improve performance, garbage collection, and .Net debugger support, said Bauwer. IronRuby would be useful for prototyping, building front ends, and integrating existing Ruby scripts with .Net, Bauwer said. "Whether you invested in Ruby or .Net, once IronRuby matures it should be possible to use the best of both worlds," said Bauwer, who hopes to build a community around IronRuby in the next two months. More information on IronRuby can be found here.SEE ALSO:Microsoft's OneCare antivirus software to go live Thursday Microsoft readies Ultimate Office for SOHO market ADVERTISEMENTThe IT EvolutionA new wave of innovation is rolling across the IT industry.
